St. Mark’s Parish has its roots in the growth of Kitchener’s Forest Heights community during the late twentieth century. As the neighbourhood expanded, so too did the need for a Catholic community where families could gather for worship and grow together in faith. In 1982, the new St. Mark’s Catholic community was formed, with Sunday Mass initially celebrated in the gymnasium of St. Mark School. The community continued to grow, and in 1988 the Bishop of Hamilton gave permission for St. Mark’s to become a parish in its own right.
The growth of the parish eventually made a permanent church building possible. After several years of worshipping in the school, the present St. Mark’s Church was dedicated in 1991, providing the parish with a permanent home for the celebration of the Eucharist and the sacramental life of the Church. Since then, St. Mark’s has continued to develop as a vibrant Catholic community, embracing families from across Kitchener and welcoming people from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Today, the parish remains committed to worship, evangelization, fellowship, and outreach through ministries such as Alpha, RCIA, Eucharistic Adoration, the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Women’s League, and other parish activities.
